My name is Sam Streamer, qualified BASI Mat Pilates teacher
I have been practising Pilates for about 7 years and love it. I have tried many activities and never stuck with them, I have a collection of tennis racquets, dance shoes etc but Pilates stuck and is now a permanent part of my life. I used to suffer periodically with sciatica but this has mainly disappeared from my body through my Pilates practice.
I started my training with BASI in London during February 2020, qualifying in February 2021. I began teaching in a local village hall just before the Covid-19 lockdown and after a short break the classes have continued online via Zoom.
Since then I have also attended further workshops to obtain certification the following:
Pilates and Osteoporosis
Pilates and the Older Body
Pilates for Injuries and Pathologies
Emergency First Aid at Work
Buff Bones system of movement for bone and joint health
I love walking our dog and spending precious time with family and friends.
I am currently completing Reformer and Tower training courses.
About Pilates
Pilates was created by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th Century:
- Pilates can help improve posture, strength, flexibility and may help with lower back pain
- Pilates has a holistic approach and encompasses the mind, body and spirit through the exercises on Mat and various apparatus
- Pilates is accessible by everyone regardless of age, sex, ability or level of fitness
- It focuses on the entire physical body
- Exercises can be adapted or modified for each person based on fitness level, injuries, post surgery etc
- Breathing is a central tenet of Pilates and will be taught as part of each exercise
- Pilates is designed so that you mindfully practice each exercise ensuring that the correct muscles are used and applied with concentration, focus and harmony
